ABOUT PROJECT
CareerNavig8r solves a simple but frustrating problem: most career advice comes from people who’ve never actually done your job. Instead of matching you with a generic executive, the career navigation platform connects you with someone who has literally held the exact role you’re aiming for – whether that’s bank teller, mechanical engineer, or math teacher. You get real, practical guidance from someone who’s already made the mistakes you’re about to make.
Anyone can be a mentor on CareerNavig8r. The founder built this career mentoring platform after watching his highly competent sister and retired father struggle to share their knowledge. His belief is simple – if you’ve held the job, you’re qualified to mentor it. Retired HR manager? Mid-career researcher? Just someone who’s helped a colleague through a tough work problem? You can sign up in five minutes, set your own schedule and price, and start getting paid for the wisdom you already have.

Key Challenges
When Ken approached Roobykon Software, the project was at a standstill. The previous development partner had gone silent due to unforeseen circumstances, leaving Ken without a clear path forward. He had a promising vision for a mentoring marketplace development project built on Sharetribe Flex, but no handover documentation, no insight into the existing codebase, and no way to know what was truly complete.
Rather than letting that uncertainty end the journey, Ken saw it as an opportunity to find a team that could bring fresh energy and clarity to his idea. That’s when Roobykon stepped in to solve mentoring software platform problems.
TECHNOLOGY STACK

Solution Highlights
To bring CareerNavig8r back to life, Roobykon Software built the platform on Sharetribe Flex, a marketplace toolkit that provided a solid foundation for online mentoring platform development. The team used React for the front-end, creating a clean, intuitive interface where users can easily browse mentor profiles, send requests, and manage sessions. On the back-end, Sharetribe’s default functionality handled the logic – processing mentor signups, scheduling, and messaging between users.
Beyond just fixing what was broken, Roobykon focused on making the mentor marketplace reliable and scalable. Beyond just fixing what was broken, Roobykon focused on making the mentor marketplace reliable and scalable. The project was already hosted on Digital Ocean, and our team’s deep familiarity with its infrastructure allowed us to quickly understand the existing setup, troubleshoot deployment issues, and ensure smooth operations.

THE PROCESS
01
Assessing what was already built: Instead of insisting on a full rebuild, we first took a calm, thorough look at the existing startup mentoring platform. We needed to separate what was working from what needed attention, even without proper documentation from the previous team.
02
Stabilising and supporting the live platform: Our main role became ongoing support, not grand re-architecture. We made sure the platform stayed online and fixed issues as they appeared. This stability allowed him to focus on growing his business instead of worrying about technical breakdowns.
03
Making thoughtful UI/UX improvements: We gradually introduced small but meaningful updates to the interface and user experience. Nothing flashy or risky – just clearer buttons, smoother navigation, and layouts that made sense for both care seekers and providers.
04
Building SEO landing pages: To help CareerNavig8r attract more visitors naturally, we created dedicated SEO landing pages for different services and locations. These pages were designed to rank well on search engines while still feeling helpful and human to actual users.
Main Features
Main page/Mentor page/Mentee page
We refreshed the main page with a rotating carousel that clearly shows visitors why role-specific mentoring matters. On the mentor and mentee pages, we cleaned up the copy, fixed mobile display issues, and made the call-to-action buttons more prominent.
Smart filtering without performance hits
The team recognized that Sharetribe Flex’s default logic requires ten separate requests to count listings across 1000 items across categories. Rather than overloading the site with unnecessary database calls, Roobykon removed the listing count display from categories entirely, keeping the platform fast and responsive.
Simplified booking management
Roobykon displayed all bookings sorted by status and required users to open an individual booking page to cancel, reschedule, or message. This kept the interface clean and development realistic.
Profile page with two-column availability
The team split the availability settings into two clean columns and used Sharetribe’s default logic for accessibility settings, saving online mentoring platform development time while maintaining full functionality exactly as it worked on Ken’s original site.
Separated availability settings into dedicated tabs
Rather than building custom availability logic from scratch, Roobykon split the design into two tabs and used Sharetribe’s default availability functionality. This saved substantial development of online platform for mentoring startups time while delivering the same user experience Ken wanted.
Streamlined core platform logic
Aligned filtering, booking, and name fields with Sharetribe’s native behavior to avoid costly custom development. Postponed time-consuming features like full chat and multi-card payment storage to launch faster.
Implemented SEO landing pages
Created static pages through Flex console with optimized graphics and hardcoded text. Added accordion-style content below category search results, keeping original URLs while updating meta descriptions dynamically.
RESULTS
The partnership between Roobykon Software and CareerNavig8r turned a stalled, orphaned project into a fully functioning mentoring marketplace. Ken came to the team after a previous agency went silent, leaving him with an incomplete Sharetribe Flex codebase and no documentation. Roobykon Software stepped in not with grand promises, but with calm, practical action. We stabilized the platform, implemented SEO landing pages, added a rotating job roles carousel with dynamic grammar, and cleaned up the mentee page with polished UI and clearer CTAs.
CareerNavig8r went live with a stable, production-ready digital mentoring platform where anyone with job experience can become a mentor and get paid for their knowledge. Roobykon Software continues to provide ongoing support, UI updates, and landing page refinements. More importantly, the platform now works the way it was always meant to: connecting people who’ve held a role with people who want to excel at that same role.

Lessons from The CareerNavig8r
When Ken first came to us, his previous agency had simply stopped responding. That silence taught us something immediately: trust is earned not by promising big, but by showing up consistently. We learned to never assume a client knows what their platform can and cannot do out of the box. Sharetribe Flex has its own logic – filtering, bookings, payment storage – and fighting against that logic only creates bugs and delays.
Instead of forcing a design to work, we now start every project by asking: what does the platform want to be? Then we help the client shape their vision around those realities. That conversation saved us dozens of hours on CareerNavig8r and made Ken a partner, not just a customer.
