ABOUT PROJECT
Roobykon Software has brought the concept of home-sharing to a whole new level with MyWanderLust – an exclusive platform designed for second-home owners who love to travel. This innovative solution allows users to lease their homes or country houses when not in use, earning Coins in return, which can then be spent to stay at other members’ properties. The result is a seamless and secure exchange system that transforms unused weeks into exciting travel opportunities. With a private and flexible approach, MyWanderLust fosters a trusted community where members can explore new destinations without the hassle of traditional rental agreements.
Designed for convenience, MyWanderLust is easy to use, ensuring that home-swapping feels as effortless as booking a hotel. The platform prioritizes security and exclusivity, making it an ideal choice for those who want to travel while knowing their property is in good hands. Whether it’s a cozy country retreat or a beachfront escape, every listing within the community is part of a curated network of like-minded homeowners. Thanks to Roobykon’s expertise in marketplace development, MyWanderLust redefines travel by offering a unique, coin-based system that rewards users for sharing and exploring, creating a sustainable and enriching experience for all.

Key Challenges
Building MyWanderLust came with its fair share of challenges, and Roobykon Software had to tackle each one head-on to create a platform that truly worked for its users. One of the biggest hurdles was designing an intuitive and visually appealing interface that made home-swapping feel effortless. It had to look great, but more importantly, it had to be easy for anyone to use, whether they were tech-savvy or not. Balancing simplicity with functionality took time, especially when integrating the unique coin-based system. The booking process had to be smooth, clear, and engaging, without making users jump through hoops to understand how it worked.
Security was another major focus. Since MyWanderLust revolves around people opening their homes to others, trust was key. We needed strong authentication, secure transactions, and a verification system that made users feel comfortable sharing their spaces. At the same time, the platform had to provide all the essential information (like property details, availability, and user credibility) without overwhelming people with too much at once. Finding that balance was tricky, but in the end, we built something that’s private, secure, and genuinely enjoyable to use.
TECHNOLOGY STACK

Solution Highlights
From the very beginning, our team embraced a flexible and innovative approach to bring MyWanderLust to life. We built the platform using the Ruby on Rails framework, which provided us with a solid foundation to create a robust and feature-rich solution. Leveraging the power of Ruby gems, we were able to implement key functional blocks quickly and efficiently, ensuring the platform operated smoothly and responsively from day one.
In addition to our tech stack, we chose DigitalOcean hosting to power MyWanderLust. Their secure, high-performance droplets gave us the reliability and speed we needed, ensuring our platform could handle users’ needs effortlessly.

The process
01
Defining requirements: The first step in building MyWanderLust was crafting a detailed Software Requirements Specification. This process took several weeks of research, discussions, and refinements to ensure every feature aligned with the platform’s vision. By the end of this phase, we had a clear, structured document that guided the entire development journey.
02
Designing the platform: With the requirements in place, we moved on to designing the website. This stage was highly collaborative, involving multiple revisions and approvals to ensure an intuitive and visually appealing UI/UX. After many discussions and refinements, we finalized a set of well-designed pages that met all functional and aesthetic expectations.
03
Agile development: To keep development efficient and flexible, we adopted the Scrum methodology. We planned sprints, documented workflows, and aligned our approach with the client’s expectations. This allowed us to continuously improve the platform throughout development.
04
Development and integration: We started by creating the platform’s external pages, ensuring a strong first impression for visitors. Next, we built the internal pages and developed the core logic, making MyWanderLust fully functional. The admin interface was then implemented, followed by the integration of a secure payment system, enabling seamless transactions within the platform.
Main Features
Seamless home exchange
To keep things simple and flexible, we designed MyWanderLust with a single user type. Every member of the platform can act as both a homeowner and a traveler, giving them the freedom to list their property when it’s available and book stays at other members’ homes when they’re ready to travel.
Effortless value exchange
Instead of traditional currency, MyWanderLust operates on an internal coin system. Each home’s weekly rental cost is displayed in coins, making transactions easy and transparent. This system ensures a smooth exchange process while allowing users to maximize their travel opportunities without worrying about fluctuating market rates.
Admin-controlled pricing
To maintain balance and fairness, the cost of each property is set by the platform’s admin. This eliminates pricing conflicts and ensures a consistent experience for all users. Additionally, there is a fixed fee for each coin transaction, keeping the system structured and manageable.
Global accessibility
Designed for travelers worldwide, MyWanderLust enables users to explore and book homes across different countries effortlessly. Whether it’s a cozy countryside retreat or a luxurious beachfront villa, members can find a wide range of options that fit their travel desires.
RESULTS
Roobykon Software has helped MyWanderLust create a platform that takes the uncertainty out of home-sharing. Renting your house to strangers can feel like a gamble – some guests are considerate, while others might leave you regretting the decision altogether. MyWanderLust eliminates that risk by fostering a trusted community of like-minded homeowners. Every user is carefully moderated by the platform’s administrator, ensuring that only verified participants can list and book properties.
Unlike traditional rental marketplaces, MyWanderLust operates with clear, structured rules that keep things fair for everyone. To join, each user must own a home or country house and commit to making it available for at least two weeks per year. This creates a balanced exchange system where every participant contributes to the platform, making travel both accessible and secure. Thanks to Roobykon’s expertise in marketplace development, MyWanderLust is a smart, sustainable way for second-home owners to explore the world with confidence.

Lessons from MyWanderLust
One of the biggest lessons we learned was the importance of balancing simplicity with functionality. We wanted to create an intuitive platform that users could navigate effortlessly, but we also had to integrate complex systems like the coin-based economy and admin-controlled pricing. Finding that sweet spot required countless iterations, testing, and adjustments, but in the end, we built a platform that feels both seamless and powerful.
Another key takeaway was how critical trust and security are in a peer-to-peer marketplace. Since MyWanderLust revolves around people opening their homes to others, we had to ensure the platform fostered confidence among users. Implementing a strict verification process, clear rules, and strong moderation helped us create a safe and reliable space for home-sharing. Today, we’re stronger, more experienced, and even more passionate about building innovative marketplaces.
