As a team, we had the privilege of contributing our expertise to create a solution that simplifies a critical part of parenting: finding reliable, vetted services. The idea behind Parewell was born from a simple, yet incredibly important mission – to streamline and ease the lives of parents, by providing a single platform where they can find trusted services exactly when they need them. Whether you’re a parent in a bustling city or in a quiet rural area, Parewell ensures that access to dependable services is always within reach. 

The beauty of Parewell lies in its simplicity. This digital parenting platform connects parents with high-quality service providers, making the process of finding daycare, health support, or other essential services as easy as possible. By building a network of trusted providers, Parewell removes the stress of uncertainty, letting parents focus on what really matters: their families. As we worked alongside the Parewell team, it was clear that trust was not just a value, but the core of everything they do. The visionary leadership of Mariana Vitaver, a founder passionate about empowering women to lead, played a huge role in driving Parewell’s direction. With her background in FinTech and Product Management, she brought a wealth of experience and insight to the table, ensuring that Parewell was a tool that would make a significant impact on the lives of parents everywhere. Her commitment to making parenthood a little less stressful shines through in every aspect of the project.

Key Challenges

Working on the Parewell parenting platform was a truly rewarding experience for Roobykon. One of the unique aspects of this undertaking was how smoothly everything came together. While many tech projects often come with their fair share of obstacles and challenges, we can honestly say that Parewell was one of those rare occasions where the process was refreshingly straightforward. It was a small but meaningful project, and though there were no complex technical hurdles to overcome, we still had the opportunity to apply our skills and deliver something impactful.

Solution Highlights

One of the standout features of the Parewell platform was the use of the new Sharetribe template, which made the development process smoother and faster than anticipated. As a team at Roobykon Software, we’ve worked with Sharetribe before, but this new template provided an array of benefits that helped us customize the platform quickly while maintaining high standards of security and performance. The Node and React technologies were central to ensuring high responsiveness and smooth interactions within the platform. 

For seamless payment processing on the B2C service marketplace, we integrated Stripe Connect, ensuring secure and efficient transactions for users. To enhance user experience and provide location-based services, we employed Google Maps for advanced search features and interactive mapping, enabling parents to easily find relevant services nearby. The platform’s robust hosting infrastructure is powered by Digital Ocean, ensuring high performance, scalability, and security as Parewell grows and serves more users.

The process

Initiating the project: The journey of Parewell marketplace development started with an initial call where we connected with Mariana to understand her vision. Over nearly two months, we had several discussions, refined ideas, and tackled the challenge of aligning the platform’s goals with the budget. This phase involved a deep dive into the materials provided—business presentations, UX flow concepts, and functional ideas. From the outset, the client envisioned a robust platform with many complex features. However, it quickly became apparent that the budget couldn’t accommodate this entire scope. This led to the first pivotal decision: focusing on creating a streamlined MVP that could deliver core functionality while staying within financial constraints.

Laying the groundwork: Once we had a clear direction, our team got to work on a detailed analysis of the required features. To maintain transparency, we prepared a draft task list with time estimates for each component and structured it into a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). This document gave the client a clear understanding of resource allocation and helped prioritize key functionalities. To optimize the scope, we proposed removing non-essential features, and it allowed us to focus on the platform’s core needs.

Defining priorities: With a revised scope in place, we entered a period of prioritization and reflection. The client took time to consult with mentors and coaches, analyze the proposed functionality, and finalize the platform’s must-haves. This phase required patience and ongoing collaboration. Over the course of a month, we remained available to answer questions, address concerns, and provide the support needed to make informed decisions. The result was a well-defined, optimized scope focused on delivering a compelling MVP. The client approved the changes, setting the stage for development to begin.

Development and execution: Once the green light was given, our team shifted gears to implementation. Thanks to Sharetribe’s new template, the foundational structure of the platform came together quickly. While much of the design remained default, we created a custom design for the main page and listing cards, giving Parewell a distinctive and polished look where it mattered most. We focused on delivering the core features essential to Parewell’s mission: an intuitive booking system, a reliable payment flow, and verified service provider listings. The radius-based search and calendar were meticulously implemented to ensure smooth user experiences.

Final adjustments and launch preparation: As development progressed, we maintained open communication with the client, conducting regular reviews to ensure everything aligned with their expectations. Feedback was invaluable in fine-tuning the platform and preparing it for launch. We refined the design, tested functionality, and polished the product for launch. The MVP development was done on time, ready for investor presentations and future growth.

Main Features

Separate user types with corresponding features

We added two distinct user types: parents and service providers. Each user type has access to different sets of features, ensuring that the platform serves both parties effectively. For parents, the focus was on ease of use and trust. They can browse the platform to find verified providers, read reviews, and access important information like pricing and availability. For service providers, we tailored features that allowed them to manage their listings, communicate with parents, and set their own policies.

Landing page custom design

To make a strong first impression, we created a custom design for the landing page that truly reflects the mission and vision of Parewell. The design is both visually appealing and functional, with a clear call to action that encourages parents to find the services they need and providers to list their services. We focused on making the landing page welcoming, easy to navigate, and user-friendly, all while maintaining a clean, modern look that aligns with Parewell’s brand.

Verified providers

Verified providers are marked with a special badge on their listings, giving parents peace of mind that they are working with trusted professionals. This feature helps parents make informed decisions when choosing a provider, knowing that they’ve been vetted and approved by the platform. It also highlights the platform’s commitment to quality and reliability.

Share files in chat

We wanted to make communication between parents and providers as easy and efficient as possible. That’s why we implemented a file-sharing feature in the platform’s chat function. Now, parents and providers can upload and share important documents, such as contracts, medical forms, or other necessary paperwork, directly in the chat. This feature ensures that both parties can quickly exchange information without the need for external tools, improving the overall efficiency of their communication.

Flexible cancellation policy

Every service provider has unique needs, and we recognized that different cancellation policies might apply to different types of services. To accommodate this, we gave providers the ability to set their own cancellation policies for each of their listings. This flexibility ensures that both parents and providers can agree on terms that work for everyone, giving providers more control over their business operations while providing parents with clear expectations about cancellations and refunds.

RESULTS

The collaboration between Roobykon and the Parewell team has been a rewarding experience, and looking back, it’s clear that our combined efforts led to the successful creation of a platform that truly addresses the needs of parents and perinatal specialists. From the very beginning, our teams aligned on the shared goal of making the process of finding and booking trusted services easier for parents. Through open communication, we kept each other informed every step of the way, ensuring that the project remained on track while still being flexible enough to accommodate changes. We worked hand in hand with the Parewell team to refine the features and deliver the most impactful MVP within budget. Their insights and constant feedback were invaluable in shaping the final product.

The most fulfilling aspect of this collaboration was the way we were able to come together, merging Roobykon’s technical expertise with Parewell’s deep understanding of their target audience. By focusing on the core features that truly mattered, we delivered a platform that set the stage for future growth. The final product is a testament to the strength of our partnership, and it’s exciting to see how this online marketplace for parents will evolve from here. In the end, this project proved that with the right blend of creativity, communication, and dedication, even the most challenging projects can yield great results.

Lessons from Parewell

Looking back on the Parewell project, a few standout themes define the journey and its success. From the outset, it was clear that Mariana’s ambitious goals would require careful adjustment to fit within their budget. By focusing on a minimum viable product (MVP), we adapted the scope while preserving the essence of their vision. This adaptability ensured that we created a services website for parents that was both functional and high-quality, setting a strong foundation for future growth. In collaboration with the client, we identified the features that would deliver the most value in the shortest timeframe. This focus on core functionality—like booking, secure payments, and verified provider listings—allowed us to create a platform that addressed the immediate needs of users while remaining cost-effective. Striking the right balance between ambition and practicality was key to the project’s success.

Clear communication was the cornerstone of our process. From the initial discussions to the final handoff, we maintained open and honest dialogue with the client. Regular updates, detailed task plans, and a commitment to addressing questions ensured that the client felt supported and informed every step of the way.
